For the first year, I decided to do Christmas Mini Sessions! Two of the only things I was certain about was, I wanted to do them at a Christmas Tree farm and I wanted an old vintage truck. I reserved a day at a tree farm, Shelby County Christmas Tree Farm, and began shopping for some Christmas decor. I then found out a friend of mine owned an old vintage Ford. And it was RED!! When I saw the truck, I knew it was going to be perfect for my set up!
Of course, the first day of my minis was the coldest it has been and it was 20 mph winds with super cloudy skies. However, a few families braved the cold and wind and we got some adorable Christmas photos.
My next session was a rescheduled mini session from the first. And guess what? It was cold and rainy. It rained all day long. Luckily though, the rain stopped literally as I was on my way to the tree farm. Again, I had some awesome families brave the possibility of rain and the cold. We not only had lots of fun, but captured some cute moments and great family portraits.
My third session, I decided to book for a few people who had inquired about a session after Thanksgiving. The weather was not a problem this time. It was sunny and 50 degrees! The truck, however, was not available for me to rent. So, I work with someone who had mentioned they had a VW van. I ended up renting that for my third session and oh my goodness!! It turned out awesome! The families loved it! I even had a family who was there with another photographer, sneak a couple pictures on their way back to their car.
I had a couple firsts during the mini sessions too. It was my first time capturing twin newborns, my first time including the doggies in the family portraits, my first time doing a free give away for a mini session, and my first time including a baby doll in the family portraits (which was super cute by the way)! I had so much fun with all the little kids and families. I am so happy I decided to give Mini Sessions a try. I think its safe to say, I will be doing them again in the future! I loved getting to capture all the adorable families. The giggles amongst one another. The sweet moments of a brother reading his younger sister (or brother) a story, and I can’t forget those amazing Mom & Dad portraits I captured!! I really enjoy family sessions as much as weddings.
